Celebrating Eid at Home, Not in KPK Detention, Yaqut: An Extraordinary Blessing

Former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas temporarily celebrated Eid al-Fitr 1447 H while under house arrest. Yaqut expressed gratitude for being able to pay respects to his mother during the Eid moment. “Alhamdulillah, I could pay respects to my mother; it is an extraordinary blessing,” said Yaqut Cholil Qoumas at the KPK building in Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (24/3/2026). Yaqut was re-detained after undergoing a series of medical examinations. Yaqut wore an orange vest and was escorted to the KPK detention centre. It is known that Yaqut’s detention status was changed to house arrest since Thursday (19/3). KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the house arrest for Yaqut was implemented after the KPK received a request from the family. The KPK then approved the request without providing further details on the family’s reasons for submitting the application. “It was indeed due to a request from the family, which we then processed,” explained Budi on Sunday (22/3).
