Celebrating 79th National Cooperative Day, Minister Ferry Tells Gen Z Cooperatives Are Not Old-Fashioned

The Ministry of Cooperatives (Kemenkop) today held the ‘GenCoopRun’ 5K fun run in the Car Free Day area of Jalan Rasuna Said, Jakarta, to celebrate the 79th National Cooperative Day (Harkopnas). The event was attended by around 2,000 participants from various backgrounds, including members of the cooperative movement, Kemenkop and LPDB Cooperative employees, and the general public. Participants were officially released from the front of the Ministry of Cooperatives building by Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono, Deputy Minister of Cooperatives Farida Farichah, and Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung. After the release, Minister Ferry expressed his appreciation for the public’s enthusiasm, particularly from young people, who joined the GenCoopRun. He stated that the spirit of healthy living shown by the participants aligns with efforts to build an inclusive and modern cooperative sector. The minister emphasised that the event was designed to pass the baton of the cooperative movement to the younger generation. ‘We want to show that cooperatives are not old-fashioned organisations, but modern, innovative, healthy, and collaborative platforms. The future of Indonesian cooperatives is very much determined by the involvement of the younger generation,’ Ferry said. He also thanked Governor Pramono Anung for the revitalisation of Jalan H.R. Rasuna Said, noting that the ministry’s office has directly benefited from the improved and more pleasant streetscape. Governor Pramono welcomed the event, noting that the Ministry of Cooperatives was the first ministry to organise a fun run along the Rasuna Said Car Free Day route, adding that the well-maintained road made the event enjoyable for all participants.
