Celebes Airlines to fly to Papua

JAYAPURA, Papua: Celebes Airlines will launch its first flight from Jakarta to Papua on March 15, an official said Thursday.

The maiden flight will start from Jakarta at 5:14 p.m. It will make stop-overs in Makassar and Timika before landing in Sentani airport in the Papua capital of Jayapura.

Commercial General Manager of PT Celebes Aviation Service, Risma Dewi Djajadi, told reporters that the company would serve afternoon flights to Papua daily.

The airline would be the second company to fly to Papua from Jakarta in the afternoon after state-owned Merpati Nusantara Airlines, There are two airline companies that have morning flights to Papua.

Celebes Airline currently operates three planes, two Boeing 737-200 with 108 seats and an MD-82 with 141 seats. -- JP
