TANGERANG, KOMPAS.com - Heavy rain that lashed the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport area on Monday (6/4/2026) afternoon not only disrupted flight operations but also triggered the collapse of the ceiling in the Boarding Lounge Gate 7 area of Terminal 3. The incident, which occurred around 1:40 PM WIB, briefly caused panic among passengers waiting for their departure schedules. The event began with rainwater seepage appearing on the waiting room ceiling. One witness, the owner of the Threads account @r.grnda, said that initially the water only dripped lightly before eventually becoming heavier and spreading wider. “There was heavy rain just now. Then a fine leak that gradually widened,” he said when confirmed by Kompas.com on Monday. At that time, several prospective passengers were waiting for the boarding process, including the witness who was about to fly to Singapore. According to him, quite a few passengers were directly under the leak point. Fortunately, they managed to save themselves before the situation worsened. “There were quite a few under it, alhamdulillah they still had time to run,” he said. Airport officials assured that the incident was brief and was immediately handled. Assistant Deputy for Communication and Legal Affairs at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Yudistiawan, said the disruption only occurred at one ceiling point. “The disruption condition at that one ceiling point lasted for approximately five minutes,” Yudistiawan said when confirmed by Kompas.com. “Airport operational staff immediately carried out handling, including cleaning and restricting the affected area, so the situation could be quickly controlled,” he added.
