Ceiling at Terminal 3 Collapses, Soekarno-Hatta Airport Operations Remain Normal
TANGERANG - The ceiling in the Boarding Lounge area at Gate 7 of Terminal 3 at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang City, collapsed due to heavy rain on Monday (6/4/2026). Assistant Deputy for Communication & Legal at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Yudistiawan, assured that there were no disruptions to services and the damaged ceiling area has been cleaned. “Airport operational staff immediately carried out handling, including cleaning and restricting the affected area, so the situation could be quickly controlled,” Yudistiawan stated when contacted by Kompas.com on Monday. Not long after, the ceiling collapsed and water gushed down heavily. Several passengers in the vicinity moved away to avoid the affected area. As a result of the incident, airport authorities conducted cleaning and restricted the area to prevent impact on passengers. According to him, the current condition has returned to normal and can be used by passengers. “The area is now clean and the situation has returned to conducive, with airport operations running smoothly,” he said. However, the volume of dripping water became increasingly heavy and the leaking area continued to widen. Shortly afterwards, part of the ceiling in that area collapsed and water gushed down heavily, causing panic among passengers. According to him, quite a few passengers were directly under the leak point. Fortunately, they managed to evade it. “There were quite a few people underneath; praise be to God, they still had time to run,” he said when confirmed by Kompas.com on Monday. At the time of the incident, a witness said they were waiting for boarding for a flight to Singapore at Gate 7 Terminal 3. “They’re still cleaning up, but they’re quick on their feet,” the witness remarked.
