Cecilie Bahnsen and the Feminine Couture Touch in Uniqlo's Latest Collaboration
KOMPAS.com - Discussions about couture characterised by dramatic details and artistic silhouettes would be incomplete without mentioning the name Cecilie Bahnsen. The designer and couture brand from Copenhagen, Denmark, has been one of the figures shaping the face of contemporary feminine fashion in recent years. The name Cecilie Bahnsen may not yet be as popular as the big fashion houses from Paris or Milan among the general public. Cecilie Bahnsen graduated from the Royal College of Art in London, and founded her own label in Copenhagen in 2015. From the outset, she has consistently designed feminine pieces with couture details such as voluminous silhouettes, frills, shirring, and floral motifs. However, unlike couture garments that are associated with a sense of impractical daily wear, Cecilie makes comfort a crucial part of her designs. Her pieces often appear light, loose-fitting, and allow the wearer to move freely. Now, Cecilie Bahnsen’s distinctive design approach is accessible through her latest collaboration with Uniqlo, titled ‘Shapes of Poetry’. How did the collaboration between the everyday couture brand and the everyday-wear retail brand begin? Read on for the full story below. The Uniqlo-Cecilie collaboration has its own backstory. Evy Christina Setiawan, Senior Marketing Manager at Uniqlo Indonesia, said that the initial meeting between Uniqlo and Cecilie Bahnsen happened by chance in Copenhagen in 2019. At that time Uniqlo opened its first store in Denmark, and Yukihiro Katsuta, Senior Executive Officer of Fast Retailing and Head of R&D at Uniqlo, happened to meet Cecilie. ‘It also takes time to find the right collaboration,’ Evy said at the launch event of the Uniqlo collaboration with Cecilie Bahnsen ‘Shapes of Poetry’ at The Dharmawangsa Hotel, Jakarta on Wednesday (20 May). She explained that Uniqlo and Cecilie Bahnsen share the same value, namely clothing that can be worn in daily life.
