Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that Washington is prepared to launch another attack on Iran if ongoing diplomatic efforts and negotiations fail to reach an agreement.

Citing Reuters (30 May), Hegseth made the remarks at the Shangri-La Dialogue international security forum in Singapore. He affirmed that the US military remains combat-ready and has sufficient arms supplies to continue operations if necessary.

‘Our capability to restart [the war], if needed, is more than adequate,’ Hegseth said in Singapore on Saturday (30 May).

‘We have more than enough supplies for that, both there and worldwide, so we are in a very strong position,’ he added.

Hegseth also said the US is not turning away from the Asia-Pacific region despite its conflict with Iran.

‘We can do two things at once. We are boosting our defence industry capacity so we will soon be producing ammunition 2x, 3x, 4x more to ensure all our operational plans are well-funded globally,’ he said.

According to Hegseth, President Donald Trump wants to make a major deal to ensure Iran does not acquire or develop nuclear weapons.

On Friday (29 May) local time, Trump said he would meet in a secure White House room to make ‘final decisions’ on a proposal to end the Iran war, which would extend the initial April ceasefire by another 60 days, giving negotiators time to reach a permanent resolution to the conflict.

The war launched by the US and Israel on 28 February has killed thousands, primarily in Iran and Lebanon, and caused global economic suffering by raising energy prices due to Iran effectively closing the Strait of Hormuz.
