Ceasefire breach: Israeli attack on Khan Younis kills civilians

Escalation of violence rocked southern Gaza again on Saturday, 7 March, as an Israeli air strike targeted a house in Khan Younis, killing a Palestinian man and leaving a child in critical condition. The incident adds to a long list of ceasefire violations that were due to be in effect since 11 October. Field reports say the Israeli military has continued to launch air strikes, artillery fire, and bombardments from naval ships at various strategic points in the enclave. In Khan Younis itself, the situation was described as tense as fighter jets targeted the eastern part of the city, with simultaneous bombardment from the navy and ground artillery. The ceasefire breaches have deepened the humanitarian crisis, with the latest data showing the death toll since the ceasefire began rising sharply: 636 Palestinians killed and 1,704 injured by Israeli attacks. The total number of civilian deaths since the start of the conflict on 7 October 2023 has now surpassed 72,120, with medical data noting that the majority of casualties are among the most vulnerable groups, women and children.
