CCTV integration in Jakarta to bolster capital city security

The Deputy Chairman of the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), Wibi Andrino, believes that the integration of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) services between the Jakarta Provincial Government and the Metro Jaya Regional Police will strengthen the security and comfort of the capital’s residents.

“With this integration, it is hoped that it will serve as a solution,” said Wibi in Jakarta on Monday, in response to the signing of the CCTV integration memorandum of understanding. He noted that the integrated CCTV network could become a new strength, particularly in the realms of public security and resident convenience.

Wibi continued that the integrated distribution of CCTV supports the monitoring of potential disturbances to public order and security, including the surveillance of street crimes such as muggings and snatch thefts. The system will also support the monitoring of traffic congestion points, providing a comprehensive solution for the city.

“This is a step that the people of Jakarta have been eagerly awaiting, where the CCTV services currently scattered across DKI Jakarta are integrated into a new strength, especially for the security and comfort of Jakarta’s residents,” he stated. Consequently, he encouraged the maximum utilisation of all existing CCTV through cross-agency cooperation.

Previously, the Jakarta Provincial Government and the Metro Jaya Regional Police moved to integrate approximately 24,000 CCTV cameras into one shared surveillance system to maintain public order and security in Jakarta.

“The CCTV cameras that will be managed together, at this initial stage before further development, will number approximately 24,000,” said the Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, at Jakarta City Hall, Central Jakarta, on Monday.

Pramono explained that the CCTV feeds originate from various sources, including Regional Owned Enterprises (BUMD), Regional Government Agencies (OPD), traffic facilities owned by the Metro Jaya Regional Police, and high-rise buildings of more than four storeys in Jakarta. Similarly, CCTVs installed at various strategic points, including the MRT, LRT, Transjakarta, and high-rise buildings, will be connected into a single integrated system.
