CCTV Footage Reveals Alleged Attackers Circled Back Before Dousing Human Rights Activist Andrie Yunus with Acid
JAKARTA — Two alleged perpetrators were captured turning around on a motorcycle before spraying acid towards Andrie Yunus, Vice-Coordinator of the Commission for Disappeared Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), on Jalan Salemba I in Senen, Central Jakarta, Thursday evening (12 March 2026), according to CCTV footage.
The CCTV recordings were presented at a press conference held at YLBHI in Menteng, Central Jakarta on Friday (13 March 2026). The footage shows two alleged assailants on a motorcycle at 23:37 Western Indonesia Time, passing near Jembatan Talang (Talang Bridge).
After circling back, the two alleged perpetrators then passed by and sprayed acid at Andrie, causing him to cry out in pain.
Human rights activist Fatia Maulidiyanti, who presented the video footage, stated that two CCTV videos were made public to the media. The first video shows the two alleged perpetrators attempting to turn around, whilst the second shows footage from a different angle at the incident location.
“What is actually visible is that the street was quite busy, but then suddenly the street becomes completely empty—not even a single motorcycle remained after the attack,” Fatia said at the press conference. “This is when the perpetrator’s motorcycle crossed paths with the victim’s motorcycle, and after that the street was completely empty,” she added.
There are suspicions that the perpetrators had planned the perimeter security of the road and other aspects of the attack. “We have also reported this to the police. Hopefully, friends, this situation serves as a collective alarm that things are not well today. We must look after one another and continue to resist,” Fatia stated.
Andrie Yunus was attacked by an unknown assailant on Thursday evening (12 March 2026). Dimas Bagus Arya, Coordinator of the KontraS Working Body, stated the incident occurred at 23:37 Western Indonesia Time whilst Andrie Yunus was riding his motorcycle on Jalan Salemba I-Talang in Senen, Central Jakarta.
