CCTV Footage in Andrie Yunus Case: Perpetrator Changes Clothes After Being Splashed with Caustic Liquid
Police have displayed CCTV footage showing the faces and travel route of the perpetrators who threw caustic liquid at anti-corruption activist Andrie Yunus. Police suspect that the caustic liquid had splashed onto the perpetrator’s body.
“This was monitored on Jalan Diponegoro where the perpetrator is seen, and it is suspected that the liquid hit part of his body, so both of them tried to clean it with mineral water, as seen in the CCTV video,” said Dirreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Iman Imannudin at Mapolda Metro Jaya, Jakarta, on Wednesday (18/3/2026).
From the CCTV footage, the two perpetrators who threw the caustic liquid at Andrie were riding together on one motorbike. They pulled over after carrying out the splashing and are suspected of cleaning the caustic liquid splashes using mineral water.
Iman said that the motorbike driver perpetrator also removed the batik-patterned shirt he was wearing at the start. During the action, the perpetrator was wearing a batik shirt.
“Well, as you can see, the two people in front, the one wearing the red T-shirt, we suspect that his outer clothing has been removed, because at the crime scene he was seen wearing a shirt with a blue batik motif,” he stated.
Iman said that the suspected driver perpetrator was indeed wearing double clothing, namely a red T-shirt covered by a blue batik shirt on the outside. After the splashing incident, Iman said the suspected perpetrator removed the batik shirt and was left only in the red T-shirt.
“This is the one wearing the red T-shirt, and this T-shirt was also captured on CCTV during the daytime before the incident. It was moving and then also monitored at the junction heading towards Kramat Raya,” he said.
“Then, after the incident, with the perpetrator already wearing his inner T-shirt, because the outer T-shirt is suspected to have been hit by the liquid and was removed by the perpetrator,” he added.
As is known, Andrie Yunus became the victim of a caustic liquid splashing suspected to have been carried out by two perpetrators in Central Jakarta on Thursday (12/3) night. The incident occurred while Andrie was on his way home after attending a podcast event at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI).
TNI Headquarters has also spoken out regarding the caustic liquid splashing case against Andrie. TNI stated that four of its soldiers are suspected as the perpetrators of the splashing, three of whom are first officers, namely captain and first lieutenant.
“Captain NDP, Lettu SL, Lettu BHW, Serda ES,” stated TNI Deputy Chief of Staff for Military Police Major General Yusri Nuryanto during a press conference at TNI Headquarters.
