CCTV Analysis Reveals Perpetrators Followed KontraS Activist Before Acid Attack

Metro Jaya Police have revealed new findings in their investigation of the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS (Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence). Police stated there are four suspected perpetrators in the case, and the suspects tracked Yunus’s movements before committing the crime.

“Based on CCTV footage analysis from multiple locations across Jakarta, the suspected perpetrators are believed to have followed the victim’s movements before the incident, with their movements detected through several surveillance camera points,” said Dirreskrimum of Metro Jaya Police Kombes Iman Imanuddin at a press conference at Metro Jaya Police headquarters on Monday, 16 March 2026.

Imanuddin stated that the perpetrators’ movements were detected from South Jakarta to the crime scene. He noted that the suspects circled Medan Merdeka Raya Street, Ir H Juanda Street, the Tugu Tani area, and the YLBHI building, also located in Central Jakarta.

“From Medan Merdeka Barat Street, they proceeded to the Tugu Tani area, circling the National Monument towards Tugu Tani, then from Tugu Tani they turned towards Medan Merdeka Timur Street, and subsequently towards YLBHI,” Imanuddin explained.

Imanuddin revealed that at that time, Andrie Yunus was at YLBHI. After Yunus finished attending an event at YLBHI, the perpetrators resumed following him.

“After the YLBHI event concluded, the perpetrators began following the victim when he left. The victim did not go directly to the crime scene, but stopped to refuel at Cikini Raya, and the perpetrators followed him there,” he said.

Four Suspected Perpetrators

Imanuddin believes there are four perpetrators in this case. This assessment, he stated, is based on findings showing four individuals waiting for Andrie when he was at Cikini Raya petrol station.

“Around 23:32 or 23:35 WIB, the suspected perpetrators were seen at Cikini Raya petrol station. Allegedly four perpetrators, using two motorcycles, waited for the victim in front of KFC Cikini, then followed the victim as he moved along Diponegoro Street and subsequently towards Salemba 1 Street,” he said.

The perpetrators ultimately sprayed acid at Andrie at 23:37 WIB on Salemba 1 Street. Imanuddin stressed that his team has obtained clear images of the perpetrators from CCTV footage.

“At the time of the incident on 23:37, Thursday, 12 March 2026, on Salemba 1 Street at the intersection with Talang Street in Central Jakarta, where the crime occurred, we are grateful we have obtained CCTV footage with sufficiently clear images, which greatly assists our investigation and inquiry processes,” he concluded.
