Cawang City Park on Jalan DI Panjaitan, Kebon Pala, Makasar, East Jakarta is once again suspected of serving as a hub for immoral activities among men. The East Jakarta municipal government has implemented several prevention measures.

The East Jakarta municipal government has installed two floodlights in the Cawang City Park area as a preventative measure against suspected prostitution practices.

“The team from the East Jakarta Transportation Department’s Sub-office will add lighting at Cawang City Park by installing two floodlights,” said Makasar District Head Dimas Prayudi at Cawang City Park on Saturday (28 February 2026).

The measure was taken following community reports and concerns regarding the misuse of the park’s function during nighttime hours. Improved lighting is considered an important factor in reducing potential social risks and other negative activities in the green public space.

Dimas explained that the floodlight installation was carried out to ensure the park area is clearly visible from outside, particularly at night. According to him, the previous lack of lighting was suspected to have been exploited by irresponsible individuals to conduct deviant activities.

“We are adding lighting so that activities within the park can be seen from outside. With these two floodlights, the area that was previously dark is now brighter,” Dimas said.

Intensified Night Patrols

In addition to the spotlight installation, prevention efforts are also being pursued through strengthened patrols. The East Jakarta Civil Police and three-pillar security forces will intensify coordinated night patrols at Cawang City Park.

“We are operating with the Civil Police contingent, and then the three pillars together with the local police precinct and military territorial command; the operation begins at 21:00 WIB,” Dimas said.

The night patrols are conducted to prevent the suspected misuse of Cawang City Park located in Kebon Pala Village. He explained that the handling is being carried out collaboratively with the Parks and Urban Forests Sub-office, village officials, and the three-pillar security elements comprising military community liaison officers and police community liaison officers.

According to him, the location has been several times suspected of being misused by irresponsible parties. In addition to patrols, the East Jakarta Parks Sub-office will also deploy staff in the park area to directly monitor community activities.

“From the Parks Sub-office, there is placement of staff at the location to observe community activities suspected of misuse,” Dimas said.

He emphasised that the success of maintaining the park is not solely the government’s responsibility, but rather a shared responsibility of the entire community. He expressed hope that Cawang City Park could once again become a safe, comfortable public space that benefits the surrounding residents.

Two Access Points Closed

Previously, the East Jakarta municipal government had permanently closed two entry points to the City Park in the Cawang area. Not only that, the park fence section bordering the toll road area also came under scrutiny.

Combined personnel discovered gaps in the fence that are frequently used by residents to enter the park area unofficially.

At the city park, officers found several contraceptive devices and bottles of leftover alcohol in the Cawang City Park area. Although the context of their use could not yet be determined, these findings reinforced suspicions of activities inconsistent with the function of a public space.
