The Jakarta Provincial Government has shared a series of tips for safe driving during rain and flooding. Here are the key points:
Reduce speed.
Maintain a safe distance to anticipate sudden braking.
Stay focused; avoid using your mobile phone.
Check the condition of your vehicle, including tyres, brakes, windscreen wipers, lights, air conditioning, and battery, to ensure they are in good working order.
Avoid roads with standing water or heavy traffic.
For motorcyclists:
Wear a clear-visored helmet.
Carry a raincoat and wear bright colours to increase visibility to other road users.
Wear rubber-soled shoes to prevent slipping.
Be aware of puddles and potholes hidden by water.
If the rain is too heavy, take shelter in a safe place.
Do not take shelter under trees, bridges, or flyovers.
For car drivers:
Stay in the left lane, except when overtaking.
Do not drive below a minimum speed of 60 km/h or exceed a maximum speed of 80 km/h.
