Causing Fatalities, Sahroni Calls for Ban on 'Sound Horeg' Carnivals: Too Much Harmful Impact

A series of ‘sound horeg’ carnivals and parades in East Java are suspected of causing fatalities throughout August 2026 in the province. Three deaths have been recorded in these incidents, involving crew members, carnival participants, and local residents who happened to be at the scene.

The most recent incident occurred in Jombang District, Jember Regency, where victims were struck by a canopy and a wall that allegedly collapsed due to the vibrations caused by a passing ‘sound horeg’ system.

Responding to these events, the Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Ahmad Sahroni, has requested that the police and relevant authorities prohibit the staging of ‘sound horeg’ on public roads or in residential areas. He noted that these activities are deemed harmful and dangerous to the surrounding community.
