Caught Stealing Cables Worth Rp 143 Million, Two Men Arrested in Cikarang

Two men have been arrested for allegedly stealing electrical cables worth hundreds of millions of rupiah in the South Cikarang area, Bekasi Regency. The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday (9/7) at a powerhouse area, after an engineering staff member conducting a routine inspection heard suspicious noises and found several pieces of cut cable on a panel. The discovery was immediately reported to the security team, who then swept the powerhouse area and found a ladder near the boundary wall between a mall and a petrol station. Initial investigations suggest the two individuals entered through a generator set cooling vent. Security officers then sealed the exit access and conducted a sweep inside the building, where they found the two perpetrators along with the cut cables and various tools. The security team subsequently reported the incident to the South Cikarang Police. The two men, identified by the initials N and S, were detained and taken to the South Cikarang Police station. Evidence seized from the location included approximately 40 metres of cut FRC cable, around 200 metres of cable that had been disconnected from the cable route, a pair of pliers, a size 10 spanner, a cutter knife, a screwdriver, and a test pen. Preliminary estimates indicate the loss from the damage and theft of the cables is approximately Rp 143,760,000. The two detained individuals and the evidence have been taken to the South Cikarang Police station for further examination and investigation. Investigators are applying charges of aggravated theft in accordance with applicable legal provisions. The South Cikarang Police are still investigating the respective roles of the parties, their method of entry, and the possible involvement of other individuals in the case.
