Caught on CCTV: Groping Attack Targets Woman Jogging in Sewon, Bantul

A CCTV recording showing a woman being groped while jogging in Pendowoharjo, Sewon, Bantul has circulated widely on social media. Police said they have inspected the scene and are asking the victim to report the incident to Sewon Police.

“Good morning, admin. I would like to report a groping incident experienced by a young woman who was jogging near my house. The area behind Clandys Niten (Pendowoharjo, Sewon, Bantul). The incident occurred at 5.15am. I am attaching video evidence in case she wishes to report it to the nearest police station,” said the Instagram account @merapi_uncover, as seen by detikJogja today.

Bantul Police Public Relations Head, First Inspector Rita Hidayanto, confirmed the incident. However, the victim has not yet filed a report with either Sewon Police or Bantul Police.

“It is true there was a groping incident in Sewon, but the victim has not made a report so far,” Rita said when contacted by detikJogja on Thursday (20/8/2026).

Although the victim has not filed a report, Rita said police have visited the location to verify the incident.

“Sewon Police officers have visited the scene to carry out checks,” she said.

Rita also urged the victim to file a report with Sewon Police or Bantul Police immediately, as a formal report would provide the basis for police to launch an investigation.

“The victim is asked to report immediately to Sewon Police or Bantul Police, or she can contact the call centre on 110,” she said.
