CATL Secures Largest Sodium-Ion Battery Order
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Battery manufacturer Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) has secured the largest sodium-ion battery order through a strategic cooperation agreement with energy storage integrator HyperStrong.
According to a CarNewsChina press release on Monday, the two companies announced a three-year collaboration that includes a total order of 60 GWh of sodium-ion batteries, the largest such order in the world to date.
CATL stated that the collaboration with HyperStrong will encompass research and development of technology, product applications, and project implementation.
According to the company, this partnership demonstrates that CATL has overcome all challenges in the mass production supply chain for sodium-ion batteries and possesses large-scale delivery capabilities.
Sodium-ion batteries offer several advantages, including adaptability to a wide temperature range, superior high-temperature cycle durability, lower heat generation during operation, smaller cell expansion pressure, and better safety stability.
In long-term energy storage applications, this technology can simplify storage system architecture, reduce additional energy consumption, and enhance overall operational efficiency and economic aspects.
According to CATL’s annual report, in 2025, its power battery sales reached 541 GWh and its energy storage batteries reached 121 GWh.
Securing a total sodium-ion battery order of 60 GWh is equivalent to approximately half of CATL’s total 2025 energy storage battery shipments.
