CATL Introduces Cutting-Edge Battery Products
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The world’s leading battery manufacturer, CATL, introduced its latest cutting-edge battery products designed for passenger vehicles during Tech Day 2026.
The latest battery products unveiled at the event held on Tuesday (21/4) include the third-generation Qilin battery with a capacity of 125 kWh, which enables vehicles to travel at least 1,000 km before needing a recharge.
As quoted in the Arena EV press release on Wednesday (23/4), CATL stated that the charging rate of this nickel-cobalt-manganese chemistry-based battery is equivalent to 10C and peaks at 15C. This means that, in theory, a full charge would take 4 to 6 minutes.
According to the company, the volumetric energy density of this battery is 600 Wh/L, and its gravimetric density is 280 Wh/kg.
This battery pack weighs only 625 kg, which is about 255 kg lighter than a comparable LFP battery.
Lighter and more compact batteries like this allow engineers to design cars that are lighter, with more spacious cabins, lower power consumption, and longer lifespan.
According to the battery company, it enables large sedans to travel 1,500 km and SUVs to reach 1,000 km on a single charge.
In addition, there is the third-generation Shenxing Superfast Charging battery, which, according to the company, theoretically has a 10C charging capability with a peak of 15C, similar to the Qilin battery.
According to CATL’s testing, charging the battery from 10 percent to 80 percent takes only 3 minutes and 44 seconds. At extremely cold temperatures down to −30°C, this battery still functions and takes only 9 minutes to charge from 20 percent to 98 percent.
The company’s internal testing results also show that this battery retains more than 90 percent of its capacity after 1,000 full charge cycles.
This battery offers a pure electric range of up to 500 km and supports charging speeds equivalent to 10C.
CATL claims that these battery products enable “once-a-week charging” for extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) models.
This LFP battery with an energy density of 230 Wh/kg, supporting 10C-equivalent charging speeds, enables vehicles to achieve a pure electric range of up to 600 km.
