Catholics join Corpo Cristo

DILI, East Timor: Around 12,000 Catholics joined the Corpo Cristo service on Sunday in remembrance of Christ's crucifixion, Antara reported yesterday.

The service, led by Bishop Monsignor Carlos Felipe Ximenes Belo, began with a procession headed by a group of people carrying a three-meter high cross from Motael church to the Mother Mary statue in Licedere, East Dili.

The ceremony is conducted every year after the celebrations of Easter and Christ's Ascension Day. It is joined by all parishes in the region, according to Florentino C. Sarmento, who organized the service. (swe)
