Catholic Youth Support Police to Thoroughly Investigate Corruption Allegations

The Central Board of Catholic Youth has declared its full support for law enforcement, particularly the Indonesian National Police, to thoroughly investigate ongoing corruption allegations. Chairman Stefanus Gusma commended the police’s swift action in conducting a series of searches related to major corruption cases that have drawn public attention. “Regarding yesterday’s series of search activities, which yielded extraordinary results, the public certainly fully supports the police’s swift action in uncovering alleged corruption in PLN coal, Jiwasraya, Asabri, and Krakatau Steel,” Gusma said in an official statement in Jakarta on Thursday. Gusma urged the police to promptly convey the results and progress of the investigation to the public to maintain transparency. This step is considered important to anticipate intervention from influential parties that could potentially obstruct the legal process. “Immediately convey the developments and results to the public. We fully support all steps by law enforcement in the context of eradicating corruption. If there are officials or influential people hindering the investigation, do not be deterred. The people will surely support you,” he asserted. He also reiterated President Prabowo Subianto’s firm stance that no one should be immune to the law and that the law must not be used as a political tool. On the other hand, Gusma also highlighted the presence of Indonesian Military personnel at the residence of the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes, Febrie Adriansyah, in the Radio Dalam area of South Jakarta on Wednesday. Although this security arrangement refers to Presidential Regulation Number 66 of 2025 concerning State Protection for Prosecutors in Carrying Out Their Duties, Gusma also questioned the alleged presence of military personnel at the Metro Jaya Police Headquarters. “They said they wanted to pick up a witness and collect evidence. So why were military personnel guarding the house of a senior prosecutor whose name is currently being widely mentioned in the media?” he said. Regarding these dynamics, Catholic Youth asked Armed Forces Commander General Agus Subiyanto to pay special attention to ensure that no members deviate from the main duties and functions of the Indonesian Military. “The Armed Forces Commander must pay attention to these dynamics. Do not let any military personnel be exploited or step outside the role and duties of the Indonesian Military,” Gusma said.
