Catholic Student Organisation Strengthens Synergy with Government
Ruteng, VIVA – Christian Alesandro Delviero Rettob, or Delvis Rettob, Chairperson of the Central Presidium of the Catholic University Students Association of the Republic of Indonesia (PP PMKRI) Sanctus Thomas Aquinas for the 2026–2028 term, has invited all cadres to close the dynamics surrounding the 34th Congress and the 33rd Members’ Deliberative Assembly (MPA) session by strengthening organisational solidarity.
According to Delvis, differences in political choices that emerged during the leadership election process must not end in division. Instead, all cadres are asked to once again prioritise the spirit of brotherhood as the foundation of the organisation.
“Differences in political stance must not tarnish the organisation. Let us return to the spirit of brotherhood and turn our differences into a strength for building PMKRI,” he said, quoted on Wednesday, 29 July 2026.
Besides inviting cadres to strengthen internal consolidation, Delvis affirmed that the new leadership will push for a repositioning of the organisation to be more responsive to various national issues. One focus highlighted is development inequality and policies that are deemed not yet evenly felt across various regions.
He said PMKRI will also strengthen partnerships with the central government, regional governments, state institutions and civil society organisations in order to broaden the organisation’s contribution to society.
Delvis also expressed appreciation to all PMKRI branches that ensured the success of the congress and MPA session. According to him, the entire process was dynamic but remained in a spirit of togetherness.
“The success of this Congress and MPA is the result of the hard work of all PMKRI branches across Indonesia. The process was indeed full of dynamics, but it proceeded with warmth and a spirit of brotherhood,” said Delvis.
In the election for Chairperson of the PP PMKRI Central Presidium, Delvis won the most votes in the first round with 43 votes. He then advanced to the second round alongside a candidate from Malang, Exen. However, before voting began, Exen left the deliberation arena, so the MPA forum, based on the applicable rules of order, confirmed Delvis as Chairperson of the PP PMKRI Central Presidium Sanctus Thomas Aquinas for the 2026–2028 term.
A number of congress participants also conveyed their hopes for the new leadership. The Chairperson of PMKRI Palangka Raya Branch, Alponsus Nuno Maria, expressed hope that the central board would be more active in visiting the branches so that the organisation’s programmes truly address the needs of cadres in the regions.
“Our hope is that the Presidium Chairperson and the new board can go directly to the branches, listening to and understanding the various issues there. That way, the policies and programmes implemented will truly address the needs of the branches,” said Alponsus.
