Cathay United Bank (CUB) participated in the second-phase funding of the Green Investments Partnership (GIP), a blended finance initiative managed by Pentagreen Capital. As Taiwan’s first bank to join GIP, CUB has committed credit lines to support global developers in implementing green investment projects. In the first funding phase, the initiative raised USD 510 million. Following additional commitments from CUB and several other investors, total funding commitments are expected to reach USD 800 million.

GIP sits under Financing Asia’s Transition Partnership (FAST-P), an initiative launched by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). The programme is managed by Pentagreen Capital, a platform for sustainable infrastructure debt financing founded by HSBC and Temasek. Through innovative financing schemes, the programme accelerates the development of sustainable infrastructure in Asia and closes the green financing gap in developing countries. The programme’s participation also reflects the growing activity of Taiwan’s financial sector in global sustainable finance and strengthens the bank’s position in international financing markets.

CUB explained that the platform uses a blended finance structure to deliver more diverse investment and financing solutions. Through this scheme, financial institutions, government agencies, and state-owned enterprises can join to support green infrastructure projects in Southeast Asia and South Asia. The first-phase funding of GIP was previously supported by institutions including the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Export Finance Australia, and British International Investment.

As a financial institution with long experience in sustainable finance in Asia, CUB welcomes this programme. Through these financing commitments, CUB supports various global developers working on green investment projects and sustainable infrastructure.

Michael Wen, Executive Vice President, Cathay United Bank, said: ‘Cathay United Bank is committed to long-term sustainable finance and continues to expand its business reach, both domestically and internationally. We are pleased to work with the Monetary Authority of Singapore, Temasek, and HSBC in the second phase funding of GIP. Cathay United Bank’s participation as Taiwan’s first bank in this blended finance platform marks an important milestone that reinforces our role in supporting sustainable finance collaboration in international markets while expanding our presence in the Asia-Pacific region.’

Cathay United Bank currently has more than 67 offices representing 11 international markets. CUB continues to strengthen its long-term commitments in the ASEAN region through branches and representative offices in Singapore, Vietnam, and Malaysia, and several key markets such as China and Hong Kong to support regional economic growth.

With extensive experience in deploying sustainable finance, CUB has financed Taiwan’s first solar power plant project; participated in the offshore wind power project’s syndicated loan in Taiwan; supported one of the largest onshore wind projects in Vietnam; and provided sustainability-linked loan facilities in the Philippines.

Looking ahead, Cathay United Bank will continue to strengthen its international network and broaden capabilities in cross-border lending, structured finance, and project finance to deliver comprehensive financial solutions that support sustainable business growth.
