Cathay increases flights to Jakarta
HONG KONG (UPI): Cathay Pacific Airways is to start offering
two extra flight services each week to the Indonesian capital of
Jakarta beginning on Oct. 29, a statement by the airline said
Saturday.
The move will bring the total number of Jakarta-bound Cathay
flights per week to 12. The additional flights will depart the
British colony on Tuesday and Sunday mornings.
Hong Kong's flag carrier also plans to increase seating
capacity to Indonesia's popular resort areas of Surabaya and
Denpasar. Starting Oct. 29, the twice-weekly Surabaya flight will
be serviced by the new A330-300 aircraft offering an additional
21 seats per flight and modern in-flight facilities.
The four weekly flights to Denpasar also will offer increased
capacity because the flights have been de-linked from long haul
routes.
"Indonesia is currently one of Cathay Pacific's fastest-
growing markets both as a business and leisure destination," said
Raymond Yuen, the airline's general manager for Southeast Asian
routes. "Indonesia is also attracting a high percentage of Hong
Kong residents."
Figures from the Hong Kong Tourist Association indicate a 27
percent increase in Hong Kong residents traveling to Indonesia
between January and June 1995, compared with the same period in
1994, Yuen said.
