Cathay adds Jakarta flights

HONG KONG: Cathay Pacific Airways said Tuesday it would reinstate some flights to North America and Indonesia that were cut back in response to the Sept. 11 terror attacks that devastated the airline industry.

Cathay said its flights between Hong Kong and Los Angeles will increase from seven to 10 a week as of June 1, while it will add three more flights to Vancouver, for 14 per week.

Cathay also plans to add two more weekly flights to the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, restoring daily service on that route.

Cathay's director of corporate planning, Augustus Tang, called it "a measured response to some signs of recovery in those markets," but he warned that ticket prices remain low as carriers compete to rebuild their businesses. -- AP
