Cataract surgery on 25 poor people

JAKARTA (JP): The Jakarta branch of the Indonesian Journalists Association, in cooperation with the Metropolitan Medical Center hospital, sponsored cataract operations on 25 poor patients free of charge on Wednesday.

The free surgery, which was conducted by a team of doctors from the MMC hospital, was one of various social activities being held by the two institutions in conjunction with their anniversaries, Antara reported.

The 25 patients were selected from among about 500 cataract sufferers from poor families. After the operations, the 25 people have been asked to make regular visits to the Tanah Abang Puskesmas (Community Health Center) for further treatment, Dr. Rudy, who led the team, said. (bas)
