Cat burglars make off with Rp 300m

TANGERANG: Five armed robbers broke into a house on Jl. Cempaka in Ciputat, Tangerang, late on Tuesday, making off with Rp 300 million (US$33,204) in goods and cash.

No one was hurt in the incident, which is now being investigated by the Ciputat Police.

Police said three of the robbers entered the house, owned by Hari Harjono, 45, after they pried a window open. The other two waited outside.

The suspects, however, were confronted by Hari and his wife, Patricia, 40, who woke up from the noise.

Threatening them with firearms and a sword, the suspects then tied the couple up, along with their two daughters, Raiha and Talita and two housemaids in their bedrooms.

The suspects then fled with jewelry, $200 in cash and the family's Toyota Kijang. -- JP
