Castro invited to visit Beijing
BEIJING (AFP): China's President Jiang Zemin has invited Cuban
leader Fidel Castro to make an official visit to China, the
official Xinhua news agency said yesterday.
The invitation was handed over Monday by Prime Minister Li
Peng during a two-hour stopover in Havana where he had talks with
Castro. The agency did not give any details of the talks.
Li was flying to Peru after visiting Mexico.
Jiang, the communist party secretary-general, visited Cuba in
late 1993 on a visit which strengthened ties between the two
communist nations. Cuban Foreign Minister Roberto Robaina,
visited Beijing in February.
