Casio Launches MR-G Series Inspired by 'Brinicle' Phenomenon in Polar Seas
MR-G FROGMAN Diver’s Watch 30th Anniversary Variant with 200-Metre Water Resistance to ISO Standard
Tokyo, (ANTARA/PRNewswire)- Casio Computer Co., Ltd has launched the latest MR-G series, complementing its flagship G-SHOCK line of shock-resistant watches. The new model, MRG-BF1000EB, draws inspiration from the rare natural phenomenon known as the brinicle — a column-like ice formation that develops beneath polar ocean surfaces due to extremely cold saltwater currents.
The MR-G FROGMAN series is renowned for its ruggedness in diving activities. Furthermore, this watch line combines advanced technology and premium Japanese craftsmanship to deliver high performance for professional divers.
The MRG-BF1000EB features a brinicle or brine icicle (salt ice) design theme, a rare natural phenomenon where ice columns grow beneath extremely cold polar ocean surfaces.
The watch’s bezel is made from COBARION, a metal alloy four times harder than pure titanium. The component is hand-cut under the supervision of Japanese cutting and polishing expert Kazuhito Komatsu. The spiral pattern on the bezel is reinforced with scratch-resistant blue arc ion plating (AIP), creating a visual effect resembling a brinicle vortex in polar seas.
Two front screws, characteristic of the FROGMAN’s asymmetric design, are adorned with lab-grown blue sapphire stones featuring 57 round facets for a luxurious appearance.
The case back displays the signature FROGMAN frog diver motif, along with “MR-G 30TH” to commemorate the series’ 30th anniversary. Each unit has a unique serial number, as the watch is limited to 800 pieces worldwide.
The timepiece comes with two interchangeable strap options: a Dura-Soft Band resistant to colour changes, dirt, and material ageing, and a premium titanium bracelet with metallic finish. The entire package, including the watch, extra straps, and strap tools, is housed in an exclusive case crafted in collaboration with Japanese premium luggage brand Proteca, underscoring its limited-edition status.
