Cashback platforms gaining popularity, making shopping more economical
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The utilisation of digital technology through cashback platforms (money back) and e-commerce is increasingly popular among the public as a strategy for economical shopping amid rising living costs and pressure on purchasing power.
The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded Indonesia’s annual inflation at 3.48 percent in March 2026, reflecting ongoing pressure on the public’s purchasing power. In line with this situation, the online shopping trend continues to grow because it is seen as offering ease of access, efficiency, and various incentives such as promotions and cashback that can help the public reduce expenses.
Chief Commercial Officer of MOVA Cashback, Jennifer Tiffany Muliyanto, in an official statement in Jakarta on Monday, said that changes in public shopping behaviour are driving increased utilisation of digital platforms to manage expenses more measurably.
“Currently, we see a change in the public’s shopping patterns, from previously being consumptive to now being more selective in spending. Therefore, we are educating the public that shopping using the MOVA Cashback digital platform is not just a trend, but can also be utilised optimally,” said Jennifer.
As part of the education on utilising digital technology, MOVA Cashback held the MOVA Roadshow in Serang, Banten, attended by around 350 residents, with the majority being housewives. In the event, participants received education on optimal use of the cashback application, digital-based economical shopping strategies, and utilisation of premium features that are claimed to provide additional income opportunities through affiliate activities.
The application also encourages affiliate partners to understand the basics of digital activities, including the use of social media and simple communication strategies to support digital marketing activities.
One of the socialisation participants, Sri Mastufah, said that using the cashback feature has helped her reduce expenses even though her monthly shopping needs remain the same.
“From daily shopping activities, now it can be utilised more optimally. So, even though the monthly shopping remains the same, expenses are reduced because of the cashback,” said Sri.
MOVA Cashback will expand cooperation with various outlets and strengthen public education so that digital technology can be utilised more optimally in daily shopping activities.
