Case of Islamic Boarding School Leader and Teacher Sodomising 11 Students Escalates to Investigation

Police have upgraded the status of the case involving the leader and a teacher of an Islamic boarding school (ponpes) in Belo District, Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), from the inquiry stage to a formal investigation. The police have dispatched the Notice of the Commencement of Investigation (SPDP) to the Bima District Attorney’s Office.

“The case is proceeding. We have also sent the SPDP to the Bima District Attorney’s Office,” stated Iptu Mahfuddin, Head of the Women and Children Protection Unit (PPA) of the Bima Police Criminal Investigation Unit, when confirmed on Monday (8/6/2026).

Mahfuddin revealed that the PPA Unit sent the SPDP to prosecutors after conducting a series of examinations involving 11 victims, several witnesses, the parents of the students as complainants, and both suspects. The delivery of the SPDP serves as a coordination step between the police and the prosecution to oversee and monitor the investigation process, allowing prosecutors to provide legal guidance if necessary.

“In accordance with the new Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), investigators are required to send the SPPK to the prosecution. Information indicates that a public prosecutor (JPU) has also been appointed,” explained Mahfuddin.

So far, Mahfuddin noted that the boarding school leader, identified by the initials RS, and the teacher, identified by the initials SY, have not yet been officially named suspects, despite being in custody. Both individuals are currently being ‘held’ to prevent any undesirable incidents. “The status of both individuals will be determined after a series of case reviews. The case review is planned to take place in the next two or three days,” he added.

It was previously reported that the leader of the boarding school in Belo District, RS (50), allegedly sodomised several students. Furthermore, the abuse was allegedly carried out alongside a teacher, SY. Initially, the number of students victimised by RS and SY was 10, but the number of victims has since increased to 11.
