Jakarta - The Deputy Chair of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Lalu Hadrian Irfani, has urged that strict sanctions be imposed on 16 students from the University of Indonesia’s Faculty of Law (FH UI) who harassed a female student. For Lalu, ensuring the safety and integrity of the campus environment is paramount. “Maintaining the safety and integrity of the campus environment is far more important, so every violation must still be firmly addressed in accordance with the provisions,” Lalu stated when contacted on Tuesday (14/4/2026). “Regarding whether we regret it or not when students have already started university but must be expelled, of course we all regret it,” he added. This PKB politician also highlighted Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Regulation No. 55 of 2024 on the Prevention and Handling of Violence in Higher Education Environments. Through this regulation, mechanisms and sanctions for students who violate the rules are already stipulated. “I am not in a position to judge, because everything must be processed in accordance with the applicable rules,” he further remarked. The sexual harassment was carried out through conversations in WhatsApp and LINE groups. The Chair of the Faculty of Law Student Executive Body (BEM FH UI), Anandaku Dimas Rumi Chattaristo, said the incident initially came to light when the 16 students suddenly apologised in the class group. “The apology was conveyed by the 16 perpetrators. And regarding their status, they all admitted to their actions,” Dimas told Kompas.com when contacted on Monday (13/4/2026). All the perpetrators are students from the 2023 batch at FH UI. The perpetrators conveyed their public apology through the class group.
