Police have revealed developments in the case of alleged sexual abuse committed by a teacher at the Insan Cendekia Madani (ICM) international school in South Tangerang. The police have now upgraded the case status to the investigation stage.

“The case, based on the results of verification and statements obtained from witnesses, has undergone a case review and has been elevated from an inquiry to an investigation,” said the Head of Public Relations for the South Tangerang Police, Inspector Yudhi Susanto, on Thursday.

Currently, seven witnesses, ranging from family members to school officials, have been questioned. The police will soon summon the reported individual, the teacher suspected of the abuse.

“The examination of these witnesses is part of the investigation process to uncover the facts related to the case and to complete the further legal process,” he added.

Modus Operandi of the Teacher

The victim’s legal counsel, Muhammad Fadhli, stated that the alleged criminal acts of sexual abuse occurred between 2023 and 2026. The perpetrator’s modus operandi allegedly involved a pattern of child grooming—a manipulative approach used to sexually exploit the victims.

“The pattern of sexual abuse was carried out by the perpetrator through child grooming. There was a pattern of manipulative approach used by the perpetrator towards the victim by offering things the victim liked,” Fasting said.

According to Fadhli, the incidents began when the perpetrator acted as the victim’s homeroom teacher in Year 4 of primary school during the 2023-2024 academic year. The alleged abuse reportedly continued until the victim reached the first year of junior high school.

The abuse allegedly took place in the school classrooms after regular school hours, under the guise of private Quran recitation lessons. Furthermore, the suspect allegedly showed inappropriate content directly to the victim following the lessons.

“After conducting the Quran lessons at the school, the perpetrator would show pornographic videos that were inappropriate for children of the victim’s age,” he said.

He added that the perpetrator allegedly engaged in physical contact with sensitive areas and attempted to solicit indecent photos, though the victim refused the requests.

ICM Responds

Insan Cendekia Madani (ICM) has suspended the teacher involved following the allegations of student abuse. The school explained that this suspension is an administrative measure.

“ICM states that it has taken administrative action by suspending a primary school teacher effective from 25 August 2026,” the school stated in a written statement.

ICM explained that the step was taken after receiving and conducting an initial handling of a report regarding alleged sexual abuse of a student on 24 August 2026. The suspension is also an effort to maintain safety and comfort, and to support the ongoing legal process.

“The suspension is a precautionary measure to maintain safety, comfort, and a conducive educational environment, and to provide space for the handling and examination process in accordance with applicable legal provisions,” ICM clarified.

The school noted that this action is not intended as a conclusion regarding the guilt or legal liability of the teacher.

ICM also ensured it would be cooperative and respect the investigation process, the rights of all parties, and the authority of the relevant institutions. The school emphasised that child protection is an inseparable part of its responsibility in providing education.

“Every report regarding alleged actions that may threaten the safety, security, dignity, or rights of students will be handled seriously, proportionally, and in accordance with applicable procedures,” said ICM.

ICM also guaranteed that it would continue to take necessary steps to ensure the safety and comfort of students, including strengthening supervision, assistance, and internal coordination with the relevant authorities.

ICM further stated that it respects the presumption of innocence and urged parents, guardians, and the public not to disseminate the identity or personal information of the child or any related parties.
