Case Details: Student Stabbed to Death by Six Gang Members Near SMAN 3 Jogja
Police have outlined the facts of the case of the killing of a student identified as AA (18) near SMAN 3 Jogja. The youth is said to have been slashed by six gang members after meeting them on the road. AA was found dead near SMAN 3 Jogja on Sunday (17 May). Police have arrested three suspects and are still pursuing three other attackers.
Jogja City Police Chief Kombes Eva Guna Pandia explained that the three suspects who were apprehended are male, initials LTF (18) a.k.a. Lupek of Gondokuman; YSF (18) a.k.a. Ucup of Mlati, Sleman. A fourth suspect remains a juvenile, initial F (17) of Sleman, who at the time was acting as a motorcycle courier.
‘LTF played the role of fighter as well as the executor who used violence against the victim. The second suspect (YSF) acted as a fighter who would attack the victim,’ Pandia said at a case briefing at Mapolresta Jogja on Friday 22 May 2026.
Pandia explained that the motive for the murder stemmed from members of the Voster gang hearing news of a clash in Jalan Magelang early on Sunday 17 May. The assailants then intended to protect their territory.
‘The motive is that the Voster gang heard of a planned brawl in their area and proceeded to patrol around Jalan Magelang to defend their territory,’ he said.
Six perpetrators on three automatic motorcycles set off from the Gejayan area and rode along Jalan Magelang. As they passed near the Borobudur Plaza roundabout, the victim confronted them.
‘Subsequently, while travelling south, the perpetrators approached the victim and asked, “Sekolah ngendi koe?” The victim replied, “Kepo”.’ He added, ‘The group then asked again, “Sekolah ngendi koe?” and the victim replied, “Ora sekolah”.’
When they reached the roundabout in front of the Samsat office, the attackers briefly left the victim and turned in a different direction. However, the victim, who had stopped, shouted towards the attackers while twirling his belt buckle.
‘Upon hearing this and seeing the group, the attackers turned back to chase the victim, who fled east toward Abubakar Ali while shouting “Voster”.’
The victim continued to run east toward the Kridosono area and saw two men setting up a tent. The victim and his friend stopped and got off the motorcycle to seek help.
But the pursuing attackers closed in, kicking the victim’s motorcycle until it toppled over. At that moment, one attacker dismounted and produced a single-edged curved blade known as a celurit and swung it at the victim’s body.
‘The celurit slash pierced the chest and penetrated the front of the chest, causing bleeding inside the pericardium around the heart,’ he said.
After slashing the victim, the attackers fled. They dispersed toward a meeting point around Jalan Kaliurang and buried the celurit blades in a houseyard.
The victim had briefly been on the back of a friend’s motorcycle. However, on the way the vehicle fell and residents helped carry him to hospital.
‘The victim was briefly carried by his friend again, then fell and was helped by residents, taken to Panti Rapih Hospital by a church ambulance in an unconscious condition,’ he added.
The attackers fled after hearing that the victim had died.
Investigators from the Jogja Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit traced the whereabouts of the three suspects and arrested them at a house in Cilacap, Central Java.
Pandia stressed that four other attackers remain at large, one of whom is said to be the provider of a safe house in Cilacap.
‘We appeal to the four criminals who are still at large to surrender their son to us so that he can be processed under the applicable law because if they do not surrender, the police will take firm and measured action,’ he said.
Police recovered CCTV footage, clothing and equipment used by the suspects, two motorcycles, four mobile phones, and a single long celurit blade about 70 cm in length.
The suspects are charged under Article 80(3) in conjunction with Article 76C of Indonesia’s Law No. 35 of 2014 as amended by Law No. 23 of 2002 on child protection. The maximum penalty is up to 15 years in prison and/or a fine up to Rp 3 billion.
