Cartenz Task Force Shoots Dead Armed Criminal Group Commander in Yahukimo
The Cartenz Peace Task Force has shot dead a commander of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) from the Muara Kali HSSBI Battalion, Kodap XVI Yahukimo, identified by the initials AP, also known as Y or AS.
Head of the Cartenz Peace Task Force, Inspector General Faizal Ramadhani, explained that the incident began when a joint team searched a house used as a base and transit point for HSSBI Kodap XVI Yahukimo members in Dekai town. During the search, officers seized one round of 5.56 mm ammunition, several sharp weapons, bows and arrows, mobile phones, and various equipment suspected to be linked to the armed group’s activities. A 28-year-old man with the initials HS was also arrested at the location. Initial examination revealed HS admitted to storing ammunition allegedly originating from a group member with the initials AK.
Subsequently, the joint team received information regarding AP’s whereabouts in the Pos Kilo 6 area, Dekai District. While conducting surveillance, the target was spotted riding a motorcycle along Jalan Logpon. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, AP ignored their commands, abandoned his motorcycle, and fled towards the forest.
Faizal stated that officers then pursued the suspect and fired two warning shots in accordance with standard procedures. However, as the target continued attempting to escape, officers took firm and measured action following police protocols. AP was pronounced dead during the operation and was subsequently evacuated to Dekai Regional General Hospital for further procedures. Officers seized five rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition as evidence from the scene.
Based on his role, Faizal confirmed that AP was on the wanted list and had been involved in a series of armed violent incidents in Yahukimo Regency. He was recorded as being involved in the shooting of Alexander Angket and Naldy Magosa on 28 April 2026, in which Alexander sustained a gunshot wound to the right shoulder and Naldy suffered a gunshot wound to the left thigh. AP was also suspected of involvement in the shooting of Suhardin in the Blok A shop-house area, Dekai, on 30 April 2026, where a projectile struck the victim’s motorcycle speedometer without causing any fatalities.
