Cartenz Task Force Captures KKB Shooter of Tito Karnavian's Convoy in 2012

The Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force 2026 has captured a member of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) named Pulan Wonda, alias Kamenak, who was previously on the Most Wanted List. The Task Force Public Relations Commander for the Cartenz Peace Operation 2026, Senior Commissioner Yusuf Sutejo, stated that Pulan Wonda is an active member of the KKB armed group in Kodap XII Lanny Jaya, known to be involved in various attacks on security personnel and civilians in Puncak Jaya and Lanny Jaya. He is also suspected of involvement in the shooting of the entourage of the then-Papua Police Chief, Tito Karnavian, on 28 November 2012 in Pirime District, Lanny Jaya Regency. Yusuf explained that the arrest took place on Thursday (2/4) around 12:27 WIT. At that time, officers were conducting surveillance in the Mulia town area and detected the suspect’s presence at a motorcycle repair shop. The team then carried out a blockade. When the suspect passed by on a motorcycle, he collided with the officers’ vehicle and attempted to escape. “Officers issued two warning shots, but they were ignored, so measured and firm action was taken, incapacitating the suspect in his right leg,” said Yusuf in a written statement on Friday (3/4). Currently, Pulan Wonda is undergoing medical treatment and will face further legal proceedings. The Head of the Cartenz Peace Operation 2026, Inspector General Faizal, stated that this law enforcement action is a manifestation of the state’s presence in providing protection to the public from armed violence threats. “We also continue to prioritise preventive and humane approaches, and invite all community elements not to get involved in violence networks. Conducive security can only be realised through cooperation from all parties,” said Faizal. He assured that every action by Cartenz Peace Task Force members is carried out professionally, measurably, and in accordance with applicable legal provisions.
