Cartenz Task Force Arrests Armed Criminal Group Member Linked to Police Shooting

The Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force has arrested a man with the initials PP (25), also known as P, who is suspected of having links to the Kodam III D Dulla Intan Jaya armed criminal group operating in Intan Jaya Regency, Central Papua. The Head of the Ops Damai Cartenz 2026 Public Relations Task Force, Commissioner Yusuf Sutejo, stated that PP was arrested in Bajemba Village, Sugapa District, Intan Jaya Regency, on Wednesday (24/6) at around 14.00 WIT. “After being secured, the individual was immediately taken to the Cartenz Peace Task Force Post for further examination and investigation,” Yusuf said in a statement on Friday (26/6). Yusuf explained that the arrest was part of a follow-up investigation based on police report number LP/A/01/I/2024/SPKT/RES. INTAN JAYA, concerning the shooting incident at the Intan Jaya Action Task Force Tower Post on 19 January 2024, which resulted in the death of the late Briptu Alvando Steve Karamoi. “Based on the results of the investigation and information obtained in the field, investigators conducted a deeper probe into PP’s alleged involvement in a number of security disturbance incidents that have occurred in the Intan Jaya region,” Yusuf said. “In addition to the shooting at the Intan Jaya Action Task Force Tower Post on 19 January 2024, investigators are also looking into the individual’s alleged connection to several other incidents that occurred in 2026. However, all of this information is still under investigation and being developed to complete the evidence and ensure objective legal facts in accordance with applicable regulations,” he continued. For his actions, PP is charged under Article 458 paragraph (1) and/or Article 466 paragraph (3) and/or Article 459 in conjunction with Article 20 letter c and/or Article 21 paragraph (1) letter b of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years, life imprisonment, or the death penalty. “The application of these articles is still in the process of being proven based on valid evidence in accordance with the provisions of the applicable laws and regulations,” Yusuf stated. Meanwhile, the Head of Ops Damai Cartenz 2026, Inspector General Faizal Ramadhani, stated that the arrest is part of the authorities’ commitment to enforcing the law against perpetrators involved in armed violence in Papua. “We will follow up on every piece of information obtained in the field through a professional investigation process in accordance with legal procedures. We are committed to uncovering every criminal act that results in loss of life or disrupts public security stability,” he said. The Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force is continuing its investigation and development efforts to gather information, evidence, and facts necessary for the legal process. The task force also urged the public to maintain a conducive security and public order situation.
