Cartenz Peace Task Force Officer Killed in Attack by Unknown Assailants in Yahukimo
A member of the Cartenz Peace Operation Taskforce, Brigpol Fredi Lukas Awes, was found dead with multiple wounds in Dekai, Yahukimo, Highland Papua, on Monday (20/7) evening.
The Head of Operations of the Cartenz Peace Taskforce, Inspector General Faizal Ramadhani, expressed deep condolences over Fredi’s death while on duty. He assured that the perpetrators of the attack on Fredi would be investigated thoroughly and processed according to applicable law.
“The deceased’s service was a form of dedication and loyalty in maintaining security and providing protection to the public,” he said in a written statement on Wednesday (22/7).
“We assure you that this incident will be handled professionally, in a measured manner, and in accordance with prevailing legal provisions,” he added.
The Deputy Head of the Public Relations Taskforce of the Cartenz Peace Operation, Senior Commissioner Andri Alam, explained that the victim, who was personnel under operational control (BKO), was on security duty in Yahukimo, Highland Papua.
He said the victim was found in the area of the Halabok Paradiso Belakang Farm Road Complex, Dekai, Yahukimo, at around 23.30 local time, already deceased.
Furthermore, he said, the examination revealed wounds caused by sharp weapons, allegedly inflicted by unidentified persons (OTK). Andri stated that officers are still investigating to uncover the perpetrators and the motive behind the incident.
“The victim was evacuated from the scene to Dekai Regional General Hospital for further medical examination. Subsequently, the body was flown to Jayapura City and is currently lying in state at the funeral home,” he explained.
He went on to say that a joint team from the Cartenz Peace Operation Taskforce, Yahukimo Police Resort, and the BKO of Brimob Yon B of the Papua Regional Police had also processed the crime scene and questioned several witnesses.
“As well as conducting investigations and pursuing the perpetrators suspected of carrying out the assault that resulted in the victim’s death,” he said.
“We are committed to thoroughly uncovering both the perpetrators and the motive in this incident. The entire process is being carried out professionally, objectively, and in accordance with applicable legal procedures,” he concluded.
