Cartenz Peace Task Force Officer Killed in Attack by Unknown Assailants in Yahukimo

A member of the Cartenz Peace Task Force, Brigadier Fredi Lukas Awes, was found dead with multiple wounds in Dekai, Yahukimo, Papua Highlands, on Monday evening (20/7). Head of the Cartenz Peace Task Force, Inspector General Faizal Ramadhani, expressed deep condolences over the death of Fredi while on duty. He confirmed that the perpetrators of the attack will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted according to the law. ‘His service was a testament to dedication and loyalty in maintaining security and providing protection to the community,’ he said in a written statement on Wednesday (22/7). ‘We will ensure this incident is handled professionally, measurably, and in accordance with applicable legal provisions,’ he added. Deputy Head of Public Relations for the Cartenz Peace Task Force, AKBP Andri Alam, explained that the victim, a personnel under Operational Control (BKO), was on security duty in Yahukimo, Papua Highlands. He stated the victim was found in the Halabok Paradiso Belakang Agricultural Road Complex area, Dekai, Yahukimo, at around 11:30 p.m. WIT, already deceased. Furthermore, he said, the examination revealed wounds from sharp weapons, suspected to have been inflicted by unknown assailants (OTK). Andri said officers are currently conducting an investigation to uncover the perpetrators and the motive behind the incident. ‘The victim has been evacuated from the scene to Dekai Regional General Hospital for further medical examination. Subsequently, the body was flown to Jayapura City and is currently lying in repose at a funeral home,’ he explained. He added that a joint team from the Cartenz Peace Task Force, Yahukimo Police, and the Papua Police Mobile Brigade BKO Yon B has processed the crime scene and questioned several witnesses. ‘We are also investigating and pursuing the suspected perpetrators who committed the assault resulting in the victim’s death,’ he said. ‘We are committed to fully uncovering the perpetrators and the motive in this incident. The entire process is being carried out professionally, objectively, and in accordance with legal procedures,’ he concluded.
