Cartenz Peace Task Force Arrests Five in KKB Firearms Network

Jayapura (ANTARA) - The Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force has arrested five suspects allegedly involved in a network trafficking firearms for the KKB in Yalimo-Yahukimo.

The five individuals, arrested on Tuesday (7 July) at various locations in Jayapura City, have the initials AG, FCRG, JT, IK and MK.

Task Force Spokesperson for the Cartenz Peace Operation, Police Commissioner Yusuf Sutejo, said on Thursday that among those arrested was AG, who had been on the wanted list (DPO) for his role as an intermediary in the illegal firearms trafficking network operating between Yalimo and Yahukimo.

AG had been placed on the wanted list based on Police Report Number LP/A/1/III/2026/SPKT Ditkrimum/Polda Papua, dated 13 March.

The arrest of the firearms and ammunition network for the KKB was the result of follow-up work by Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force personnel, following the earlier arrest of SP and DK on 12 March, who are suspected of being affiliated with the Yaligem Kodap KKB in Yalimo.

“Investigators are still looking into AG’s involvement in a transaction on 4 March for the purchase of one homemade long-barrelled firearm worth around Rp80 million,” said Police Commissioner Yusuf.

He said AG’s arrest formed part of a series of investigations that in March secured 298 rounds of ammunition, four SS1 magazines, one assembled homemade firearm, and six Second World War-era firearm barrels found in a rusty condition and without stocks.

All five suspects have been charged under Article 306 in conjunction with Article 20 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 15 years, said Task Force Spokesperson Police Commissioner Yusuf Sutejo.
