Cars with engines over 1,400 cc barred from filling Pertalite, Pertamina responds
KOMPAS.com reports that social media has circulated claims that cars with engines above 1,400 cc will no longer be able to purchase Pertalite subsidised fuel from 1 June 2026. The information includes a list of vehicles allegedly prohibited from using Pertalite, among them the Daihatsu Xenia, Daihatsu Terios, Daihatsu Luxio, Toyota Yaris, Toyota Veloz, Honda City, Honda Mobilio, and Mitsubishi Xpander. Some social media users have questioned the accuracy of the information, particularly regarding restrictions on subsidised fuel purchases based on engine capacity. So, is it true that cars with engines above 1,400 cc will be barred from refuelling Pertalite from 1 June 2026? Pertamina Patra Niaga Corporate Secretary Robert Dumatubun said, in principle, the company will follow government policies related to the energy sector, including if new rules arise on the distribution of subsidised fuels. “In principle, Pertamina as a state-owned enterprise and as a business/operator under the government will follow and refer to the government’s directives as regulator,” he told Kompas.com on Friday (22 May 2026). Nevertheless, Dumatubun has not provided a definite answer regarding the rumours of a ban on cars with engines above 1,400 cc buying Pertalite. He explained that energy sector policy is entirely the government’s authority and will be decided through a review process before implementation. He added that the technical details and implementation mechanisms will be determined by the relevant ministry or agency. “The relevant government body will set out the technicals and how the policy will be implemented. Pertamina is currently awaiting and following applicable directives, namely distributing energy in accordance with the regulations,” he said.
