Carrick Speaks About His Contract at Manchester United and Casemiro's Farewell
KOMPAS.com - English tactician Michael Carrick has spoken about the clarity of his contract and Casemiro’s farewell match when Manchester United face Nottingham Forest.
Michael Carrick has been heavily linked with becoming the permanent manager of Manchester United after leading the team to perform beyond expectations in the Premier League.
Since replacing Ruben Amorim in January 2026, Carrick has recorded 11 wins, four draws, and two losses in 17 matches with Manchester United.
In addition, the former Middlesbrough manager has also led Manchester United from sixth place to third place.
This result has seen the Red Devils return to the Champions League after a two-season absence, in the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 seasons.
As reported by ESPN, Carrick is reportedly set to sign a two-year contract with Manchester United and everything will be completed before the 37th matchday of the Premier League against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on Sunday (17/5/2026).
In a press conference ahead of the match against Nottingham Forest, Michael Carrick revealed that the talks about his contract will end as many people have imagined.
“To be honest, I don’t blame you for asking. Yes, there are still two games left, right? So, apart from that, there isn’t much else I can say. Maybe this is what you were hoping for,” said Carrick, quoted on the club’s official website.
“I think the situation is quite clear, so it’s the same as in terms of match preparation, and that doesn’t change what I’m doing this week,” Carrick added.
The match against Nottingham Forest will be Casemiro’s last match at Old Trafford before leaving on a free transfer in the summer of 2026.
Meanwhile, Casemiro’s last match with Manchester United will be in the 38th matchday of the Premier League against Brighton and Hove Albion at Falmer Stadium on Sunday (24/5/2026).
“Yes, Casemiro is available. Listen, I can talk about it since I’ve been here and met him, and worked with him. I think he’s been fantastic for us, for me personally, for us as a team,” said Carrick.
“I think what he has given us, as I said before, the clarity in knowing the situation has been helpful.”
“I think, as I said before, it’s a compliment to him for the way he’s handled it,” Carrick added.
