Carnival of 8,200 Cipete Utara residents campaigns for waste sorting
The South Jakarta City Administration (Pemkot Jaksel) held a carnival involving 8,200 residents of Cipete Utara, Kebayoran Baru, to campaign for waste sorting while also marking the celebration of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day.
“I urge participants to keep the environment clean. Keep your own rubbish and dispose of it according to its category—whether organic, non-organic, residue, or hazardous—to support the waste separation movement from the source,” said South Jakarta Mayor Syafrin Liputo at RPTRA Taman Sawo, Cipete Utara, Kebayoran Baru District, Jakarta, on Sunday.
Syafrin expressed high appreciation to the Cipete Utara Karang Taruna and all parties involved in making the annual event a success. According to him, this activity is an important moment to strengthen resident unity amid cultural diversity.
“We must fill this 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia’s independence by continuing to build and strengthen togetherness. Amid the diversity of Jakarta’s residents, particularly in Cipete Utara, the Cultural Carnival serves as a unifying event that creates harmony,” he said.
He stated that the variety of cultures presented by participants reinforces the understanding of national values in line with the pillar of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. It is hoped that this attitude of mutual respect and harmony will continue to be realised in everyday community life.
“Through this togetherness, I hope national values will grow. Although we are different, we remain one. May this event not only be lively but also strengthen bonds of friendship and increase a sense of ownership towards the environment,” he said.
Thus, in addition to emphasising the importance of maintaining harmony, Syafrin urged all participants and members of the public in attendance to keep the event venue clean by not littering.
Meanwhile, MPKT DKI Jakarta, Farazandi, added that Cipete Utara Urban Village is one of the urban villages that truly embodies the spirit of independence, including the spirit of unity, togetherness, and solidarity. All these values are clearly reflected here.
“Alhamdulillah, the residents appear happy and united. This proves that our young people have great energy, are full of ideas, and are able to execute them very well,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Karang Taruna of Cipete Utara Urban Village, Abdul Majid Nurdin, explained that for this year’s independence celebration, Karang Taruna organised several series of activities, including colouring competitions, dancing, and a cultural carnival parade involving 8,200 participants from eight Rukun Warga (RW) neighbourhood units.
“For the carnival parade, we created two categories. Besides the cultural values on display, we also created a waste sorting theme that is currently being promoted by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government,” said Abdul.
