In the spirit of Kartini Day, PT PLN (Persero) through its Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) programme has distributed early detection devices for pre-eclampsia based on Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to the Garut Regency Health Office in West Java. This initiative aims to strengthen maternal healthcare services in areas with limited access and support the reduction of maternal mortality rates (AKI) in Indonesia.

Indonesia’s Health Minister, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, stated that the government is targeting an aggressive reduction in AKI to 40 per 100,000 live births within the next five years, down from the current 140 per 100,000 live births.

One of the main causes of maternal deaths is pre-eclampsia and eclampsia, which contribute to around 25% of total cases. To curb these figures, the government is promoting health system transformation, including equitable access to early detection through the distribution of medical devices.

“We are not only targeting a reduction, but an aggressive one. From 140, we must reach 40 within the next five years. We must dare to set ambitious targets and work harder, smarter, and more precisely,” Budi said in his speech at the Socialisation and Early Detection of Pre-eclampsia event at the Ministry of Health in Jakarta on Tuesday (21/4/2026).

Agus Dinar, Head of Public Health at the Garut Regency Health Office, welcomed the support provided by PLN for healthcare facilities in the area, specifically the Cikelet Community Health Centre (Puskesmas).

“Of course, we will use this device at the puskesmas itself, and also for mobile visits from house to house. Hopefully, this tool will support the optimisation of pre-eclampsia screening services in Garut Regency,” said Agus.

In a separate statement, PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said this initiative represents PLN’s commitment to supporting government programmes while promoting improved quality of life for the community through impactful and sustainable social responsibility programmes.

“We are present in the midst of society not only through electricity services, but also through programmes that directly address community needs. One of them is by promoting improved quality of life, especially for pregnant women, through more equitable and technology-based access to healthcare services,” said Darmawan.

PLN Electricity Services President Director and Deputy General Chair of Srikandi PLN, Susiana Mutia, stated that this programme also aligns with the company’s commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3, particularly in ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being through strengthened maternal and child healthcare services.

She added that the momentum of Kartini Day serves as a reminder of Raden Ajeng Kartini’s struggle for women’s equality. Her life story, who passed away after giving birth reportedly due to pre-eclampsia, further underscores the importance of protecting women’s health during pregnancy.

“We are promoting the birth of a healthy generation for the nation through support for women, especially pregnant mothers. Early detection of pregnancy risks at primary healthcare services is expected to enable faster and more targeted interventions,” said Susiana.
