Kunming (ANTARA) - An international cargo train on the China-Laos Railway, loaded with goods departing from Kunming in Southwest China’s Yunnan Province, headed to Vientiane in Laos on Wednesday (25/3). This departure marks the cumulative cargo transport volume on the railway line surpassing 80 million tonnes since its launch on 3 December 2021, including more than 18 million tonnes of cross-border shipments.

China Railway Kunming Group Co., Ltd. stated that the operations of the cross-border cargo train have developed significantly. At its launch, the cargo railway operated two daily services, which then continued to increase to a peak of 23 daily services.

As of Wednesday, a total of 71,000 cargo trains have operated on the route. The variety of cross-border goods has increased rapidly from just over 10 items, such as fertilisers and rubber, to more than 3,800 items covering chemicals, textiles, electrical products, and minerals, driving regional economic vitality.

The annual cargo volume continues to rise. A total of 5.64 million tonnes have been transported so far this year. Cargo services on the railway line now serve 19 countries and regions, including Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, and Bangladesh, with more than 20,000 international cargo trains dispatched.
