Cargo Ship Sinks in Labuan Bajo
A cargo ship sank in the waters of Seraya Island, Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Saturday (6/6/2026) afternoon. A joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team has arrived at the scene, but no crew members have been found.
“There was no one on board the ship,” said the Coordinator of the Labuan Bajo SAR Post, Arif Rahmadan, on Saturday night.
The search operation for the ship’s crew continued through Saturday night, with the joint SAR team maintaining monitoring and further coordination.
The Head of the Class III Labuan Bajo Port Authority and Harbormaster (KSOP) Office, Stephanus Risdiyanto, emphasised that the sunken vessel was not an open-deck boat used for transporting tourists, contrary to circulating rumours. The vessel, whose name and owner are currently unknown, was transporting goods to Seraya Island.
“The information is that it is a community vessel used to transport goods to Seraya. It is not an open-deck boat that typically carries tourists,” stated Stephanus.
