Career Ended for Doctor Involved in Illegal Abortion in Mataram
The career of Dr S (known as IKS) has come to an end after the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) of the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) region officially revoked his medical practice licence (SIP). This action was taken by the IDI following allegations that Dr S was involved in illegal abortion practices. In addition to the revocation of his licence, Dr S faces potential criminal charges as the NTB Regional Police have commenced an investigation into the case.
In accordance with the IDI’s decision, Dr S’s practice licence has been revoked for the two hospitals where he practised. The decision was reached following a comprehensive meeting held between 2 and 9 September 2026.
The meeting involved the Mataram City Health Office, the NTB Provincial Health Office, the IDI NTB region, IDI Mataram, the Indonesian Medical Discipline Honour Council, the BBPOM (Food and Drug Monitoring Agency), the Mataram DPMPTSP (Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Agency), POGI (Indonesian Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology), and IDI West Lombok.
“Regarding the individual doctor, S, we will temporarily revoke his medical practice licence in Mataram City. As he practised in two locations, namely RS MM and RS B, we will proceed with the revocation at both sites,” said the Chairperson of IDI Mataram, Emirald Isfihan, during a press conference at the IDI NTB Regional Office on Wednesday (9/9/2026).
Emirald stated that the administrative process for revoking Dr S’s practice licence would be conducted at the Mataram City DPMPTSP.
“Today, we are processing this through the DPMPTSP so that, officially by tomorrow, he will no longer be conducting medical practices in two locations in Mataram City,” he added.
Administrative Sanctions for the Hospital Involved
In addition to revoking Dr S’s licence, the IDI has also imposed administrative sanctions on RS MM. The hospital has received a second-level written warning, which constitutes a severe sanction.
“Regarding the healthcare facility, RS MM will be issued a written warning. This written warning is at the second level. We are not issuing a verbal warning because we consider this an issue that requires more intensive attention, hence the issuance of a written warning,” he explained.
Emirising stated that RS MM could face even heavier sanctions if the warning is ignored.
“If this written warning is not heeded, or if there are indications of similar attempts being made, a revocation of the permit will be issued. This is a severe warning,” continued Emirald, who also serves as the Head of the Mataram City Health Office.
The case was previously reported by the Mataram City Child Protection Agency (LPA) to the IDI West Lombok, the Mataram City Health Office, and the POGI NTB region on 2 September 2026.
The Chairperson of LPA Mataram, Joko Jumadi, at the time urged the imposition of administrative and ethical sanctions against both the doctor and the hospital involved.
The report concerns allegations of illegal abortion practices involving a victim who was a high school student. According to the victim’s report, the fee for the illegal abortion reached Rp 15 million.
Investigation by NTB Regional Police
The investigation into the alleged illegal abortion is now being handled by the NTB Regional Police. The Director of the Women and Children Protection and Human Trafficking Unit (Dirres PPA-PPO) of the NTB Regional Police, Kombes Ni Made Pujewati, confirmed that an investigation has commenced, including taking statements from relevant parties.
“The investigation is underway; it has been investigated,” said Pujewati on Monday (7/9/2026).
Pujewati explained that, as of now, her office has not received an official report regarding the alleged illegal abortion practices. She noted that the investigation is being conducted based on widespread media reports.
“There has been no formal report to us. It is only based on media reports,” said Pujewati.
“We are first clarifying the sources cited in the news reports. That is the starting point. Only then will we approach the individuals identified as sources in the reports,” she added.
The alleged illegal abortion came to light after the victim’s family reported the matter to LPA Mataram some time ago. Based on the testimony of the victim and her family to LPA Mataram, the alleged illegal abortion occurred when the victim was under the age of 18.
Previously, LPA Mataram officially reported the case of alleged illegal abortion to the IDI West Lombok. The complaint was also submitted to the Head of the Mataram Health Office and the Chairperson of the Indonesian Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology for the NTB region.
