Carbon Project Development Requires Partnerships and Digital Infrastructure
Efforts to strengthen the national carbon market ecosystem require collaboration between project developers, technology providers, and investors so that emission reduction projects in Indonesia can meet international standards while attracting financing.
This was a key focus of the Strategic Forum on National Carbon Market Readiness and Corporate Carbon Governance held by the Indonesia Business Council for Sustainable Development (IBCSD) together with the Indonesia Carbon Trade Association (IDCTA) at the Indonesia Stock Exchange, Jakarta, Tuesday (14/7). During the forum, PT ESGIN Global Partners (ESGIN) and PT Agraus Resources signed a Heads of Agreement (HoA) as an initial step in developing sustainable projects and the carbon economy in Indonesia.
The agreement serves as a foundation for both companies to formulate a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and cooperation agreements that will form the basis for implementing various projects in the renewable energy, waste management, circular economy, industrial decarbonisation, sustainable agriculture, and nature-based solutions sectors.
Chief Executive Officer of PT ESGIN Global Partners, Brandon Keam, stated that carbon project development requires technological support capable of enhancing project transparency and credibility from the planning stage through to the verification process. “The signing of this Heads of Agreement is an important milestone in building strategic partnerships to support Indonesia’s sustainable development. By integrating Artificial Intelligence, Digital MRV, Blockchain technology, and innovative carbon market solutions, we aim to deliver climate projects that generate measurable environmental impact while creating long-term economic value,” said Brandon.
Through this collaboration, the two companies will identify potential projects, exchange technical and commercial information, conduct preliminary feasibility studies, perform due diligence, and develop business models and investment schemes deemed ready for funding. In addition to project development, the cooperation is also directed towards building digital infrastructure to support the carbon market. ESGIN will develop various solutions, ranging from AI-based Digital Measurement, Reporting and Verification (Digital MRV), ESG data management systems, blockchain technology for environmental assets, to a green investment platform.
CEO of PT Agraus Resources, Riza Suarga, assessed that combining project development experience with technological utilisation is a crucial factor in improving the quality of Indonesia’s carbon projects. “This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to developing innovative and commercially viable sustainable projects. By combining AGRAUS Resources’ experience and ESGIN’s technological capabilities, we are optimistic about producing high-quality projects that support Indonesia’s green economic growth while delivering sustainable benefits to all stakeholders,” said Riza.
The collaboration is expected to expand the pipeline of climate projects that meet international standards, enabling participation in both domestic and global carbon trading mechanisms. At the same time, the development of these projects is also expected to support the implementation of the Carbon Economic Value (NEK), accelerate green investment, and contribute to Indonesia’s greenhouse gas emission reduction targets.
