Carbon Campaign Launched, Individual Actions Begin to be Measured
JAKARTA — The launch of the “AKU NET-ZERO HERO” campaign represents an effort to encourage public involvement in reducing carbon emissions through more measurable steps directly connected to clean energy projects. This initiative was spearheaded by IDXCarbon, Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE), PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk, and Jejakin on Wednesday (22/04/2026) at the Indonesia Stock Exchange Building. The campaign introduces a low-carbon lifestyle with a simple and accessible approach. “When someone engages in offsetting, they are actually supporting real projects such as converting waste into energy at Sei Mangkei,” said Director of Human Resources & Business Support at Pertamina NRE, A.A.A. Indira Pratyaksa, in a press statement on Friday (24/4/2026). “That is the essence of the energy transition, how every small step can be converted into sustainable environmental and social impacts,” she continued. These carbon credits are integrated into the Livin’ Planet feature of the Livin’ by Mandiri app, enabling users to participate in carbon offset mechanisms by purchasing carbon credits. Jejakin is involved in calculating carbon emissions to ensure transparency and accuracy. Through this scheme, app users can link their daily activities to contributions towards verified emission reduction projects. The Sei Mangkei biogas power plant itself has a capacity of 2.4 megawatts (MW) and utilises palm oil mill effluent (POME), or liquid palm oil waste, to generate electricity. This process also significantly reduces methane gas emissions. In addition to contributing to emission reductions, the project provides economic added value and supports sustainability in the energy sector. “Climate change is no longer a long-term issue; we are already feeling its impacts today,” said Indira. “Therefore, action must start now and involve all parties,” she added. “Through this collaboration, we want to provide solutions that make individual contributions easier, measurable, and directly connected to real impacts on the ground,” Indira concluded.
