Car Tyres Deflated at Monas Due to Illegal Parking, Here's What DKI Transportation Agency Says
A woman complained about her car tyre being deflated while parking in the National Monument (Monas) area, Central Jakarta. The video went viral on social media. Viewed by detikcom on Instagram on Monday (23/3/2026), without showing her face, the woman recorded the condition of several cars that had their tyres deflated. In the video, the cars were parked on the shoulder and the body of Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, located on the southern side of the Monas area. More than three cars were seen with deflated tyres. Responding to the video, the Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, stated that the deflation was carried out as an enforcement action against illegal parking at Monas. “It is done so that residents do not park haphazardly. We have already conducted socialisation and urged residents not to park on the main road,” said Syafrin when confirmed, on Monday (23/3/2026). “Officers always direct vehicles to park at IRTI Monas or other locations with parking spaces such as Gambir or Lapangan Banteng,” he continued. Even though the warnings have been conveyed, according to Syafrin, residents still park on the main road. Therefore, the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency takes action by towing and removing the valve cores from car tyres to provide a deterrent effect.
