Car-Truck Collision in North Tapanuli Exposes 112 kg Cannabis Shipment

A plan to transport 112 kilogrammes of cannabis in North Sumatra was thwarted after a traffic accident led to the discovery. The case came to light following a collision between a Toyota Avanza and a truck on the Tarutung-Siborongborong public road in North Tapanuli Regency on Wednesday (24/6). Residents who approached to offer assistance became suspicious of the car’s cargo and contacted the police. “The car driven by the courier collided with a truck, trapping the driver, identified as suspect RHH, and preventing him from fleeing. When the accident occurred, residents came to help but grew suspicious of the load and called the police,” said Taput Police Head of Public Relations, Aiptu W Baringbing, as quoted by detikSumut on Thursday (25/6/2026). Upon receiving the information at around 08.00 WIB, officers arrived at the scene. While inspecting the vehicle driven by the two suspects, the police discovered hundreds of packages of cannabis. “The examination resulted in the discovery of 112 packages of cannabis being transported in the Toyota Avanza,” he stated. The two drug couriers, identified by the initials RHH (33) and PAN (36), were arrested at the accident location. According to the suspects’ confessions, the cannabis originated from Mandailing Natal Regency and was destined for Medan. Police suspect the illicit goods were to be distributed in Medan and surrounding areas.
